  • Beaches and Lifeguard Services

    Surf Life Saving NSW has announced that due to the coronavirus situation beach patrols by volunteer surf lifesavers have been cancelled for the rest of the season. However, Council has increased paid patrols to help prevent emergencies on our beaches. Call triple zero (000) if you see someone in distress in the water.

    Spas, nail salons, beauty salons, waxing salons and tanning salons can only stay open to sell their products, not to provide their services.
    Any business that provides mobile services must also comply with all relevant laws.

    Boating restrictions have been introduced by the NSW Government to combat the spread of coronavirus. Read the COVID-19 boating update https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/covid-19-update.html.

    Signs at boat ramps will remind people to stay ashore unless there’s an essential need to be out on the water.

    Up to 10 people can now sit to have a coffee, light meal or snack as per updated guidelines from the NSW Government. The Cafe will also continue to do takeaway (subsidised and affordable) meals. Pre-ordered meals to go can be collected Tuesday to Friday 11am to 1pm.

    The cafe opening hours are from 8am to 1pm Monday to Thursday until further notice.

    From Friday 15 May 2020 Tweed Valley Cemetery at Eviron will allow up to 20 mourners in The Chapel and outdoor funerals can have up to 30 people.     In line with NSW Government advice, playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment, public barbecues and skate parks are now open across the Tweed. Social distancing measures must be maintained and only 10 people are allowed to use public facilities at any time so if there are too many people, wait or come back later.

    Weddings in public spaces can have up to 10 guests (plus the couple, celebrant and anyone assisting in the conduct of the service eg photographer).

    As part of efforts to keep our community members and employees safe from the spread of coronavirus (COVID -19), Council's Community Centres and their programs at Banora Point and Tweed Heads South, as well as Kingscliff Community Hall, Tweed Heads Auditorium and South Sea Islander Room are now closed until further notice. The community-run Murwillumbah Community Centre and Pottsville Beach Neighbourhood Centres remain open.

    Planning rules relaxed for food trucks and 'dark kitchens', food business registration is still required. Food trucks will now be able to operate on any land, at any time, providing they have the landowner's consent.

    Takeaway food must be consumed off the premises.

Only 10 people are allowed to use these facilities at any time so if there are too many people, wait or come back later. Weddings in public spaces can now have 10 guests (plus the people conducting or assisting in the conduct of the service, a photographer, a videographer and the couple).     Due to the current situation with COVID-19, the Tip Shop at Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre is closed until further notice.

    The tip itself remains open to the public, but please stockpile any items that you would normally take to the tip unless it is absolutely critical to dispose of them (i.e. moving house), just until we get through the coronavirus crisis.
